labeling serving pieces

In the weeks and days leading up to a party I'm throwing, I like to do as much as I possibly can before the event so I'm not so stressed. I always set the table well in advance and I even lay out serving pieces based on what food I'm making. To make things foolproof (which I need!), I place a slip of paper in each serving piece, noting its assigned role, and add the proper utensils. This is an excellent trick from my days working at Martha Stewart Living (I actually think our good friend, Brooke, may have worked on this shoot).

I hope your Thanksgiving plans are coming together!

This is a great idea! Plus, it'll be so handy for anyone helping out...they don't have to ask the busy host "which platter?" They can just look, grab and fill. Brilliant.

I do this too & my famiy teases me about it. :) I like for things to be organized & it helps when people are bringing dishes to my house fro the holidays to already know where to put it. Glad I am not the only one. :)

Happy Thanksgiving to both of you & your families.

Such a great idea! I first heard about it in the holiday planning emails from www.flylady.net but I'm a visual learner...so seeing the photo above helps me "get" why it's helpful to have the dishes out and label them ahead of time!

I did this and it made things so easy and less stressful! Even better I had my son write them out for me and we saved them to tape into his daily writing journal for 2nd grade... killing two birds never felt better!
