the karaoke party
Continuing the microphone theme, I found very inexpensive silver glittered microphones here. I printed coordinating tags on heavy cardstock and tied them with a silver ribbon. The microphones were the perfect accoutrement to the girls' karaoke.
When the girls arrived at the party, conveniently held at my friend's party place, Rock the Tea, they were immediately whisked backstage to choose their favorite rock star outfit and then on to hair (which included crimping irons and colored hair extensions), makeup, and nails.
Next, after perusing a karaoke song list, they got into groups and practiced their song of choice for the big performance on stage. We thought it best to have the girls perform in groups to alleviate any momentary stage fright. I loved watching the girls (and parents!) get into the karaoke. If time allowed, I do believe a few of the mothers wanted to hit the stage for their own rendition of "All the Single Ladies" (I know I did)...
After the performance, trophies were awarded to each group with titles such as "best costume," "best choreography," and "best overall performance." Everyone was a winner!
I failed to estimate just how big of a hit these trophies would be. For the 6/7 year old set, you'd have thought they'd won a Grammy!
Coordinating microphone water bottle labels were designed to carry through the theme (you should know I can't throw a party without them!).
The final favor, on their way out the door, were star cookies packaged in glassine bags (I buy the 4 x 2.5 x 9.5" bags) affixed with coordinating labels. I stapled the bags and then adhered the fold over labels with double-stick tape.
All in all, a totally successful party for the sweetest 7-year old around. Everyone seemed to have a ball and Charlotte felt like a rock star, which is really all that matters on your birthday.
