hostess gifts

A few weeks ago, I took my girls to Dallas to visit Kristin and her children. It had been way too long since Kris and I had seen each other and it seemed like the perfect excuse to get our children together.

My girls were so excited for the vacation and the excitement continued when they were greeted in Dallas with metal tins, each filled with a matching swimsuit cover-up. My 3 girls + Kristin's daughter, Rees, could all be matching at the pool...they were ecstatic. Kristin is always so thoughtful.

Lest you think I am advocating spending large sums of money, the cover-up's were from H&M and were not more than $5 each and the tins were leftover from Rees' birthday. What I am advocating, however, is how a somewhat small gesture makes such a large impact and is much appreciated.

Here are the girls in their cute swimsuit cover-up's.

When we returned home, I wanted to send something to Kristin and her children to thank them for our fun trip. The girls and I went to Target and picked out an assortment of small gifts: for James, water balloons, a squirt gun and candy; for Rees, nail polish, bracelets and stickers; and for Will, my favorite Museum ABC book. For Kristin, I found the perfect pink gingham shirt on sale at J. Crew and packaged the entire lot up with a few thank you cards from the girls.

As is often the case, the giver is probably more excited than the recipient.  Charlotte and Amelia asked everyday if Kristin and her children had received our package yet. I loved that we were spreading joy.

Isn't that exactly what a thank you gift should be? It doesn't have to cost a lot of money but it shows that you care and you appreciate someone's efforts. Someone's efforts for hosting a party or someone's efforts for watching your children for an afternoon. The possibilities are endless but the reward is immense.

Don't you love that feeling? When you're so excited to give something that you know will bring a smile? So fun!

I think I am like you and your kids, I get as excited about giving as receiving! These gifts are darling and I don't think cost is the main factor, it's the thought and the touch of homemade.

Love it! There's nothing better than giving a 'thank you' gift when someone has gone out of their way to make you feel special!

That's a cute idea. It really does not take much to make an impact.
