I can't believe it's already October. My girls and I spent the weekend getting into the Halloween spirit, putting up spooky decorations and making a haunted Halloween house.
A few months ago, I bought a set of cardboard houses here and the largest one proved the perfect starting point for our haunted house. We first painted the entire house with black acrylic paint. Then, to liven it up a bit, I sprinkled the top with black glitter. I'm totally obsessed with the Martha Stewart Crafts line at Michael's, especially the glitter – it comes in about a million different colors.
Then the decorating fun began! I covered all the windows from the inside with wax paper and then started adding various accoutrements – miniature pumpkins, window detailing, moss, spider webs in the windows, etc. I found most everything at Michael's. For my paper bats flying out of the chimney, I used a few pieces of wire that I curled around a pencil.
All in all, my girls and I were quite happy with the results. It took us one evening and was a relatively painless craft. Happy Halloween decorating! :)
